I was writing to say that I’ve been waiting for this DVD for some years now, and am indignant as heck to actually gain it… to be able to peek this movie anytime, and fragment it with my friends who may never have experienced this aesthetic chronicle, is a delight which is so difficult to communicate! it is NOT “widescreen”, though I’m not definite it’s pan-and-scan either. it seems as though perhaps the ratio of the New film was square-ish, so perhaps they didn’t lop anything. i’m not clear. the fact is, however, that for many Latin American films, the process of re-producing the recent VHS release for DVD release is relatively unlikely, due to their somewhat marginal market value.

and a review from the Film Society of Lincoln Center, which last year held a retrospective of the director’s work in Unusual York City:

It’s hard to secure movies like this one in Hollywood. The actors are qualified and the yarn makes you believe about what is really distinguished in life. Trustworthy cast, obedient photography, fine, marvelous!
