Well finally, a decade after its debut, the cult classic comedian-curative careerist cartoon Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist is on DVD. Like the American version of The Office, the first season of Dr. Katz had merely six episodes. That this necessitates a low-cost single disc compilation could be fortunate or downhearted depending on your wallet-to-patience ratio.

The disc comes in a certain plastic DVD case to allow the episode information to be seen on the assist of the shroud insert when you commence the case. This is handy since there’s no need for chapter listings, however the sure plastic makes the case worthy flimsier than more favorite packaging.
The main menu is of course done in the signature Dr. Katz style. An image of Katz is captivating in Squiggle-Vision to lip-synch with several psychiatric phrases from the indicate as the theme song plays. After it repeats once, the music stops and Katz unprejudiced sort of stares at you and occasionally glances at the menu selection.

As any Dr. Katz fan should know, the PC-based animation won’t obtain any awards. Though the record is clearer than it’s ever been, the minimalist style of the pixelated MS-DOS scenes and monophonic audio mean you won’t need to occupy out for an HD version. The exhibit is presented in elephantine cloak as originally aired, although it is framed in groundless widescreen that is not anamorphic. Considering the quality, it’s probably better when viewed miniature anyway.
On the selection menu, there are six commentaries spread across five episodes. Four of them are by Jonathan Katz, H. Jon “Ben Katz” Benjamin, and series creator Tom Snyder (not the talk present host), and are as informative as you’d want and hilarious as you’d put a question to from the cast of an improvised comedy display. The third episode has a second commentary with Ray Romano and Jon Katz (who sounds to be joining via phone) . Episode #105 also has a Romano/Katz commentary.
The wait on of the DVD mentions commentary by Dave Attell, and although this may be misleading, it’s not entirely untrue. While the Attell episode lacks a fat commentary track, a five shrimp piece of the phone discussion with Dave and Katz is relegated to the bonus features fraction. I’m guessing the commentary was either too short, too blue, or Dave was honest too bored for them to bother including it in chubby. Since Katz, on another track, mentions Attell pretending to score “calls from Hollywood” during his session, I’d bet on the latter excuse.
In addition to the commentaries are a dinky selection of other extras. “The Biography of Mr. Katz” (not “Dr.” as the case states) is not some snappy thrown together text bio, but rather an eight cramped short predating Dr. Katz that shows an early Squigglevision version of Jonathan dictating his life narrative to an unseen biographer. It’s hardly uproarious, but peaceful droll to eye how the style developed. “Shrink Wrapped” is a roughly 40 second short supposedly about a shrink that features more cartoonish voices than fans are faded to, but it’s rather inexplicable and aimless. Two of the current Short Attention Span Theater shorts featuring Dr. Katz are included and are as comic as the regular indicate. However I certainly remember there being more of them. Perhaps they’re being saved for future sets.
Scant as it is, there’s enough here to tide fans over until the next season is released, and for $15 or less it’s hardly a nail-biting decision. Insert clever therapy pun here.
Dr. Katz is a comedic cartoon with stand-up comedian Jonathan Katz in the starring role of a psychiatrist who has more than his part of professional comedians as patients. This enables them to do their stand-up comedy routines as fraction of their therapy sessions. Dr Katz’ 23 year dilapidated son, Ben, aloof lives with the apt doctor and is chronically unemployed. Ben is constantly trying to begin up a romance with Dr. Katz’ receptionist, Laura, with no luck whatsoever. For example, when Ben meets Laura for the first time he asks her if she’d like to go out for coffee, and she does – leaving him to acknowledge the phones. Laura receives a paycheck from Dr. Katz but in many ways is as chronically unemployed as Ben is. She has no interest in pretending to be busy, being nice to the patients, or at times, even showing up for work. For example, when Dr. Katz suggests that Laura to be nicer to the patients she replies “Do you have any belief what it’s like to deal with crazy people all day? ” In the series premiere, “Pot-Bellied Pigs”, Dr. Katz rides Ben delicate hard about being out of work. Ben’s solution to his cash lumber predicament is to acquire two Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs and breed them in their petite Unusual York City apartment. When Dr. Katz asks Ben if he thinks this is a pleasant thought Ben’s response is “Dad, the ad says ‘Stay Home, Earn Money’ ….these are reliable things!” The third episode “Bully” is also one of my favorites in which Ben gets very upset when Dr. Katz throws away Bully, the stuffed bull from his childhood. Ben labels everything that belongs to him, and expresses terror that perhaps his father wants him out, too.
Dr Katz employs a unique animation technique called Squigglevision, which can be visually annoying to some people. In SquiggleVision there is virtually no lateral movement by any of the characters or objects, with only lips, eyes, and the like inviting. However, the edges of the characters are in a constant space of zigzagging flux, and this gives the impression of movement. There are only six episodes in this first season, but the DVD plot is reasonably priced considering the season’s short duration. I highly recommend this recent comedy as one of the smartest and funniest offerings that Comedy Central came up with before they started trying to appeal to the least approved denominator with stuff like “The Man Indicate”.

Others here have done a radiant job of reviewing this suited film, so I’ll focus briefly on the DVD from BBC/Warner. The video and audio transfers of Our Mutual Friend are quite pleasurable. Although there are no subtitles, this DVD is closed-captioned. In general, this DVD is of similar quality to other BBC Dickens adaptations that have been released on DVD (e.g., Oliver Twist (1999) and David Copperfield (1999) ) .

One reviewer below complained that 45 minutes or more of the unique film are missing from this DVD. I have no conception where he got that opinion. It must be some kind of misunderstanding or perhaps a nefarious copy because my copy clearly has the entire film (divided into four episodes, two on each side of a two-sided disc) . The all-important climax and ending scenes of this 351-minute production are all there to be pleased. Highly recommended for Dickens fans and fans of period dramas in general.
“Our Mutual Friend” finds Charles Dickens at his very darkest and most intense providing many unforgettable characters ranging from the very rich to the very awful. Retched and vile, fine and splendid occupying all social structures with the desire and acquisition of money along with the ramifications thereof being a recurring theme
This BBC production is first-rate. The acting is pretty. This production keeps this rather complex myth animated along splendidly.

Sit down and relish a “really expedient present”. You’ll need some patience because the epic is very involved; however, trust me; your patience will be rewarded! As a previous reviewer stated, if you can devote 6 hours in one viewing, its best viewed that intention. However, anyway you can glance this presentation it is well worth your time. Trust me, it is worth every second that you employ!

This DVD is share of a 7 pronged reach to teaching my preschool twins the preliminaries to becoming successful readers.

My oldest son has had effort reading. He went to an expensive Montessori for 3 years prior to entering school, but I had to contain him succor to divulge 1st grade. I am exasperated at myself for not having taken his phonics and reading program into my hold hands from the time he was 3. NOTHING replaces one-on-one time daily with a child, even if it’s objective 15 minutes a day. Consistency and patience is key.
I have several things in rotation for drilling the twins on phonics. They assume it’s all a fun game, however. This DVD plays a piece in their daily exposure to phonics and the fundamentals of reading….they were calling out the view words on this DVD within a week and a half. And that is what these words are: Spy WORDS, which are supposed to be memorized. The animation may not match the valid word meaning, but it collected works, and well. Better to exhaust [...] and have them vegetate and LEARN something vs. watching SpongeBob. Originate them early. They will feel special and radiant when in class they are the one who can read these…what a confidence booster!

As for our learning notion here’s what we are using (Besides Meet the Glimpse Words) :
1. Consume It to Your Seat Phonics Centers, Grades K-1 This book is a bunch of fun learning games/puzzles for the kids. There are several in the series. Do not effect the mistake of thinking that you can sit them in a corner with this. Concept on spending 15 – 30 mins the first time through each exhaust, harder ones require your assistance every time. These are tools, not babysitters. (Any DVD is more of a babysitter, however.) I bought a laminator for [...] from Sam’s Warehouse to design these last.
2. LeapFrog Word Whammer, Fridge Phonics Status and the single phonics one: LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet Position If they had questions about the sound a letter made, I taught them how to collect out themselves by finding the letter on the fridge then getting the Fridge Phonics map to converse them the sound. Thus if they ever wanted to know, they could assist themselves at any time.
In 6 months both my twins were able to spot the letter names and the sounds they made. All is not perfect, however. One is mild singing the alphabet song “…HIKK LMNOP…” Oh well…he can order them accurately, however, if he’s looking at them. Visual learner, I guess…
3. Leap Frog Videos. Leap Frog – Letter Factory, Leap Frog – Talking Words Factory, and Leap Frog – Talking Words Factory 2 – Code Word Caper. The last one is kind of advanced, but exposure to it is not hurting the misfortune. It’s my daughter’s well-liked one.
4. Post-its shaped like the letters of the alphabet. Got these at Wal-Mart, cant fetch them on Amazon as of this writing. Each child got a letter to stick on somethign in the house that began with that letter sound. Again, this was only a 15 min utilize, even though they wanted to continue.
5. Books on tape from the library, trips to the library. Reading books to them is not one of my current things because they finish me multiple times to ask questions and (since there are two of them) this extends the reading time to 30 mins or more on one book. Usually this is honest before bedtime when they are stalling and I am exhausted…so books on tape from the library are an suited alternative. The point is to net them enthusiastic in reading. After the Meet the Perceive Words DVD, they were exasperated to rep a explore word that they knew on almost every page.
6. Twisted on Phonics Learn to Read Pre-K Edition This series is the least-used item in the program. This is mainly because it is honest not as FUN as the other stuff and requires me to motivate them as well as fully assure. Other stuff is more able to practically converse itself. HOP is a drilling/practice tool. However, I rupture out the HOP program once a week. To come by anywhere on this, it takes about one hour each time you do an employ. However, the CD game that comes with this state is colossal for early phonics learning. They have a magician who tries to change a Hat into a Cat, for instance, and the child has to assume the fair letter out of 3 possible choices. Very simple, very instructional. They catch rewarded with animation and praise on the computer cover. I have looked all over for a simple Phonics learning CD like the one in here, and this is the only one like it I have found. Again, if you gain HOP, quiz to have to work at it with your kid. I consume the included letter cards to play “Go Fish” where I ask ” do you have Immense A? ” if I already have limited A. I say the SOUND of the letter, not the name. And occasionally to be humorous I might pretend I don’t know a sound properly and ask if they have “Tall PFFT” where PFFT is the sound of a fart. (As if one of the letters makes that sound! This always draws big belly laughs…) Kids care for potty humor. Spend with discretion. LOL. Manufacture positive you sound really confused like Mr. Noodle would when you do it…but “Go Fish” is really useful, especially if you invent clear that they secure…which is easy since cramped kids never beget their cards where you can’t view them. They should already know the letter sounds a bit before trying “Go Fish.”
7. Reader Rabbit educational CDs Reader Rabbit Learn to Read Phonics Preschool – Kindergarten (Jewel Case) for their age group (on the PC) . These are a filler, because they don’t always focus on what I am teaching, but they are calm very considerable worth it. We actually got the Reader Rabbit: Thinking Adventures (Jewel Case) from Chik-Fil-A as a share of their meal and it was a very kindly surprise to come by that the CD was chock tubby of titillating logic puzzles, and matching games in a matrix format that teaches the belief of matching in a matrix. The matching games taught concepts that were enough of a stretch for a 4 year dilapidated to be a challenge but do-able with a shrimp initial serve. My twins Savor this software.
I researched and outmoded each of these items and methods. For myself, I got a couple of books for ME to read to encourage with my older son: The Motivation Breakthrough: 6 Secrets to Turning On the Tuned-Out Child. It’s not too tedious for him, but he needs some successes. We are slowly getting there. The other book I got for myself to read and understand how children can better learn reading is The Reading Reflex: The Foolproof Procedure for Teaching Your Child to Read. Children spy reading differently than adults. This book helped me more with the younger twins than my older son, but we are doing the more advanced drills with him. He is almost finished with the second try at 1st grade and is reading at 1st grade level. He is tested at 3rd grade level concept in math. He shows signs of being an engineer like his mom someday…. :^)
Good Luck! (Actually luck has nothign to do with it. A obvious attitude, patience, and doing some work with your child for at least 15 minutes every day will acquire you along farther. More than 30 mins at a time may tire out your kid…putting away the materials while they are quiet clambering for more ensures that they will be angry when you acquire it out the following day….form it fun! )
———-
The twins have started school. I rep I have been remiss in two areas: counting to 20, and WRITING. I highly recommend adding writing to the repetoire. My daughter is gorgeous, my son lags her in writing and dazzling motor skills. I found proper resources, but the best by far for teaching writing is Mead’s Writing Fundamentals:Capital Letter Stories “Pathways For Learning M2-201 Capital Letter Stories” featuring alphaboxes paper. The standard elementary paper is broken up into blue, green, and brown. The letters are shown as figures, e.g., the letter B is a girl (first downward stroke), and there’s a bee that flies from her hat to her belt and then to her feet to originate the letter ‘B.’ This hit a chord with them, it made sense to the twins, I could observe a light dawning. I tried vital ruled paper and tracing letters with tracing paper, but this plot of activity sheets by Mead was distinguished more successful in getting them to actually try to write their letters. Purchase Price that the Letter Stories paper pads are available for far less in some accepted brick & mortar stores (f ive clams or less.) Aesthetic motor skills can also be improved (along with suitable pencil grip) with mazes (pencil & paper kind) . I am able to catch these at some free educational sites online.
As for counting, I weak Skittles to demonstrate each child how many Skittles would be represented by each number up to 20. The simple act of counting to twenty every time you catch in the car would be enough exposure. Additionally, you can try phonics games that content how to string sounds to perform a word. E.g., “I am going to say a word very slowly, can you guess what word I am saying? ” And then sound out cat by saying the hard C, count out one second to yourself, then say the short A sound, then the T sound.
One last caveat: earn positive your child can write their name before starting kindergarten!
I purchased Meet the View Words 1,2,&3 DVDs for my 5 year primitive son. He has caught on really snappy and can take out almost all the survey words from the 1st DVD. Once we complete DVDs 2 & 3 he should be able to read a short fable. This was a expansive investment and I wish I would have learned about it earlier.

The official DVD release is here, finally!!! After years of patience, waiting diligently for beneficial news, any news, concerning ‘Nash Bridges’ release on DVD, we can all rest assured that we will have a copy of the first season approach October 14th of this year!

First of all, let me fair say that ‘Nash Bridges’ is one of the best police drama series of all time, if not the greatest. What made it ample was its ability to fuse action, drama, comedy and heartfelt emotion together into one cohesive package that brought a extraordinary hour of entertainment each week to millions of fans. I’m clear most of us NB fans are level-headed scratching our heads over why this exhibit was cancelled after six fantastic seasons, because quite frankly there wasn’t anything approach as challenging on TV at the time, nor has there been since, with a few exceptions. It was very sorrowful that we did not acquire a season finale, let a lone a series finale, as it stands the last episode was sudden and without warning, with many set threads left unresolved which will be left up to our imagination, but there is a shimmering side to this magnificient series’ untimely demise, which is that the wait until we can perceive it again from the beginning on our DVD players is honest a few months away:) Here’s to Nash and Joe, one of the best cop teams ever, long live ‘Nash Bridges’!
This was probably the release I have most waited for as of yet. A improbable expose finally out on DVD, however, the DVD does NOT Hold THE New MUSIC. CBS must not have secured the lisences to exhaust ANY of the unique music featured on the exhibit. After watching the pilot episode, “Great Me” by the Foo Fighters and “Please Call Home” by the Allman Brothers have both been replaced by instrumental overdubs of different music. This is one of my common shows of all time, and I for one am incredibly disappointed that the DVD’s do not hold any of the music featured in the expose. Hopefully, from now on, CBS will net the lisences to expend the rest of the music featured in the other five seasons.
